Steven Harrold, Tenor
Having first been a member of The Tallis Scholars from 1996-2001, I have recently re-joined the group for a second spell! My very first concert was back in 1993 at the Megaron in Athens, which I remember very well because it started at 11am! (9am British time). I was fortunate enough to be involved in the 2 concerts The Tallis Scholars performed in Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome in 1994 to celebrate Palestrina’s 400th birthday. This was made into a video ( no DVD’s then!) so this wonderful building was lit up and presented in a way that most visitors never get to see. There have been many other highlights and I am very happy to be back with the group again.
I have sung with many of the well-known British vocal ensembles but am perhaps best known for my time in the Hilliard Ensemble, the world-renowned vocal quartet who retired at the end of 2014. I currently also sing with another vocal quartet, ’Gothic Voices’ , who specialize in medieval and contemporary music.
I am married to oboist Rachel Harwood-White and I am a keen walker and obsessive follower of sport of all kinds.
