Simon Whiteley, Bass

 

Simon tours and records with some of the best-known choirs and ensembles in the world. He is a regular member of The Tallis Scholars, EXAUDI and Gothic Voices, and also sings regularly with Tenebrae and The Cardinall’s Musick. He was a Bass Lay Clerk at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle for 18 years, and in that time, he was also Musical Director, Manager, and founding Bass of internationally renowned a cappella ensemble, The Queen’s Six.

 

Educated at Royal Holloway, he won both the Pompilia Legge Scholarship and the Driver Prize for excellence in the Performing Arts. He has performed as a soloist in many operatic and oratorio works, and made recordings alongside James Bowman and Eric Whitacre. Simon has sung at many prestigious festivals and venues around the world, including the Bayreuth Margravial Opera House, Town Hall in New York City, St Louis Basilica, and the Bermuda Festival. Recent and upcoming performances include appearances at Wigmore Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, and Hamburg Elbphilharmonie.

 

With The Queen’s Six, Simon made appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, CBS Sunday Morning, and interviews with him were also featured in two articles for People magazine. He also received critical acclaim for his rendition of Tom Lehrer’s ‘The Elements’, recorded with The Queen’s Six on Signum Records. In his capacity as Lay Clerk at St George’s, Windsor, Simon sang at a number of high-profile Royal events, including the wedding of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the funeral of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh (as a soloist), and the Committal part of the funeral services for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

 

In his spare time, Simon enjoys cycling, craft beer, cooking, cryptic crosswords and alliteration.
